Dear
Marianne,
This letter is being written in appreciation and request. I want to thank you
for all your generosity and time during the "Horsemanship I" series
of instruction I completed this past season.
As a Hunter/jumper trainer and a lifetime with horses, schooling in the traditional
methods I was interested in learning some new and innovative techniques. After
attending numerous John Lyons seminars, I decided his methods were what I wanted
for Moon, my Trakehner/ Morgan youngster. His energy level and pride were at
an all time high. My quest for a John Lyons trainer began in earnest and fate
put you close at hand. The instruction Moon and I have received has built confidence
and respect in my horse and a more confident leader in me. The results from our
first lesson were immediate and lasting. The change in Moon's attitude and manners
are astounding not to mention the unexpected improvements he has made in so many
other areas such as trailering, and accepting new situations, etc.
Considering the fact that I only ride English, Johns' training methods are universal
and easily transcend that technicality .
Moon is well on his way to becoming my PERFECT HORSE, and at this time I would
like to request a reservation for your "Horsemanship II" series beginning
next spring.
Sincerely,
Julie Carlson and
Moon

We
are so proud of Marianne and her great accomplishment.
We first met Marianne at a Tracy Young horse clinic that
we were participating in. We recognized right away that
she was a great teacher with lots of patience. We made
arrangements for her and a trainer she was working with,
Jonas Miller, to come to our farm and begin holding regular
training clinics. That was 2 years ago. After her John
Lyons certification Marianne now combines her great gift
of teaching and patience with the knowledge and skills
she gained in her certification program. With her other
qualifications listed on her website she is a super all
around trainer. Those who get to know her will definitely
gain a true friend who really cares about their progress
and the progress of their horses. She comes with our highest
recommendation.

Marianne Briggs has helped me considerably in gaining
control and building a relationship with my Morgan Horse.
We started in round pen basics to help develop a
good foundation. In our round pen training, Marianne explained
to me that we take the riding to the ground and the ground to the
riding. Through Marianne's guidance I started to build a relationship
with my horse, which I did not have before. As we continued our
training, I could see my horse's behavior changing to more of a "want
to" attitude, more importantly, I was becoming more confident
as a trainer myself. My horse was becoming my partner.
I still have a lot to learn and I work with Marianne
on a regular basis. Thanks to Marianne and the John Lyons training
principles, I am building a successful partnership with my horse.
With the control I am gaining, the relationship I
am building, and the partnership that is forming, we have many
good, safe times together. Be it trail riding, driving, or just
hanging out in the stables together, I feel we are forming a lasting,
more fulfilled relationship.

I am writing in response to a Select Certified Trainer
by the name of Marianne Briggs whose services I have employed to
help me start my two year old quarter horse gelding. I wanted to
let you know how impressed I am with her. Specifically, her patience,
generosity and perseverance not only with my horse but with myself
as her student.
I know when I bought my baby that the traditional
training methods that abounded were not what I wanted to expose
him to. I had researched various training method's and kept coming
back to your conditioned-response method as one that inherently
made the most sense from the standpoint of safety (big issue with
me) and communication in a form that the horse could understand.
Admittingly, I am not the most experienced horseperson.
Therefore I was looking for a trainer who could not only help me
learn these methods with my horse but who was also able to work
with my limited level of experience. I couldn't have been more
fortunate to have found Marianne. She was exactly what I needed.
My horse's and my own confidence have significantly improved with
every lesson. It is truly incredible to watch her work through
a problem and develop a step-by-step approach to help him understand
better what we want from him without force or any unnecessary pressure.
One of the training dilemnas that I was encountering
was that he would go into a trailer but was scared to death to
back out of one. Marianne was able to break this down into little
steps that he could accomplish and within the week, we had him
calmly and quietly stepping into and out of a trailer looking like
he had been doing it all of his life.
I think what makes Marianne so unique as a trainer
is her high level of commitment not only to the horse but to the
owner as well. I continue to be overwhelmed by her generosity,
in awe of her enviable talent and humbled to have met such a wonderful
person that lives her life with such an unparalleled degree of
devotion and integrity to what she truly loves, horses.
I feel my choice of John Lyons training methods has
proved itself to be the right one for me. If Marianne is any indication
of the caliber of trainers that comes out of the John Lyons certification
program, then there could never be any doubt that the program is
a great gift not only to the equines of this world but also to
those that love them.

Though
I have owned horses for many years, when my first foal
turned three I knew I needed help training her. Not wanting
traditional riding lessons, nor wanting to simply put her
in the hands of a trainer, I began to search for someone
who could help me turn this young mare into the best horse
I've ever owned. Fortune smiled and I discovered Marianne
Briggs!
After attending one of her Saturday clinics, I was hooked and signed up for weekly
lessons. Now three months later, both my horse and I have gained immeasurably
from the experience. Despite the challenges of working with a feisty young horse
that likes to test authority and an owner who can get angry or discouraged, Marianne
is always a calm and effective influence. Her technique is excellent, and she
is always willing to step in and work with the horse herself, but she never forgets
that the goal is for the owner to become successful. Every exercise brings new
accomplishments with minimum risk to student and horse, because Marianne has
a superior understanding of both.
The fact that Marianne is not a "muscular young man", and neither am
I, gives me confidence to believe that I too can succeed with her methods. With
consistency, persistence and a good-natured attitude, Marianne avoids danger
and high drama while getting results that would please any horse owner. I am
excited about continuing our progress, because there is so much more to learn
from Marianne. (And I'm having a heck of a good time too.)

I
have recently employed the services of Marianne Briggs, an excellent
John Lyons' Certified equestrian trainer. One cannot find a more
professional or knowledgeable horsewoman in our area. Her years of
work in varied horse disciplines, coupled with a most unique understanding
of horse behavior enables her to sail right through the most difficult
training situations. She definitely has the "right stuff" with
her gentle, quiet but oh-so-FIRM training technique. I have never
seen her lose her cool or even show annoyance with either the horse
or its rider. Marianne is a firm believer in training the rider with
his/her horse in her curriculum. Rather than criticize "poor
technique" she patienly guides one into the proper skills needed
to meet the task. In my own case, she first introduced the "cue" to
my horse to react as desired, then led me to follow-up in "nailing
it down." I never cease to be amazed with the patience and perserverance
she demonstrates. As I near the end of my current training session,
I am not only most pleased with that has been accomplished, but also
realize I had a lot of FUN along the way! Anyone searching for a
most gifted "natural" instructor in developing a safe trail
horse or more polished competition horse will certainly find it in
Marianne Briggs!
